Today at Royal Ascot: Kinross and Mill Stream headline QEII Jubilee field | Racing News

It’s the final day of Royal Ascot and it’s time for the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes – live on Sky Sports Racing!

3.45 Royal Ascot – Kinross and Mill Stream headline

Ralph Beckett’s star sprinter Kinross was last seen finishing a narrow second behind the re-opposing Art Power in the British Champions Sprint here last October and is fancied to make a winning return under new jockey Rossa Ryan in the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes.

Jane Chapple-Hyam’s Mill Stream has gradually progressed through the ranks and having produced a career best when landing the Group Two Duke Of York last month, he looks to have strong each-way claims under William Buick.

George Boughey’s Believing makes a quick return to the track having finished a staying-on fourth in the King Charles III Stakes and must be feared as she steps up to six furlongs.

Of the others, Art Power would appreciate a softer surface, while the hat-trick seeking Shartash heads up in grade for Archie Watson and James Doyle.

3.05 Royal Ascot – Continuous and Middle Earth clash

All eyes will be on Aidan O’Brien’s St Leger hero Continuous who makes his long-awaited reappearance under Ryan Moore in the Hardwicke Stakes. Last seen finishing fifth in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in October, he should have too much class for this field and can take this en route to top-table targets.

The John and Thady Gosden team have been among the winners this week and they saddle Roaring Lion colt Middle Earth. A son of Roaring Lion, he showed a great attitude to fend off King Of Conquest to land the Group Three Aston Park Stakes on his last start and rates a huge danger under in-from Oisin Murphy.

Desert Hero took the King George V Stakes at this meeting last year but will need to bounce back from a disappointing effort at Newbury.

4.25 Royal Ascot – River Tiber and Haatem star in 20-runner Jersey

The Richard Hannon-trained Haatem finished in the money in both the English and Irish 2000 Guineas this season and could prove tough to beat as he drops in class and distance under new pilot James Doyle in the Jersey Stakes.

Aidan O’Brien’s River Tiber claimed the Group Two Coventry Stakes at this meeting last season, and looks sure to run a big race especially if able to build on his encouraging third behind Haatem at the Curragh last month.

Unexposed pair Night Raider and Task Force are worth a mention, both finished well beaten in the 2000 Guineas and should find this a little easier.

Best of the rest

It’s Coolmore versus Godolphin in the Chesham Stakes at 2.30, as Age Of Gold and Bedtime Story head an intriguing market. Later in the day, Saint Lawrence looks to defend his Wokingham Stakes title but will have Dark Trooper for company in what looks a cracking race. Hand Of God goes to post in the Golden Gates Stakes at 5.40, before Joseph O’Brien’s Dawn Rising looks to go back-to-back at 6.15.

Fallon Sherrock and Beau Greaves to headline Women’s World Matchplay in Blackpool | Darts News

Fallon Sherrock and Beau Greaves will headline the Women’s World Matchplay in July after the qualification race reached its conclusion.

Greaves will begin her defence against Irish youngster Katie Sheldon, after the eight-player line-up for July’s event was confirmed.

They will battle it out for the £10,000 top prize on a bumper afternoon in the Empress Ballroom, in a field which includes four world champions.

Greaves has reaffirmed her status as the premier player in the women’s game

The field is comprised of eight players from a one-year Order of Merit based on PDC Women’s Series earnings across 24 tournaments since last July, with reigning champion Greaves returning to Blackpool as the top seed.

Greaves stormed to victory on debut 12 months ago, and the 20-year-old has won a further nine Women’s Series titles since then to reaffirm her status as the premier player in the women’s game.

The reigning champion will play Sheldon in her opener, as the Irish youngster returns to the Winter Gardens after missing out on last year’s extravaganza.

Sheldon enters the field after Aileen de Graaf, who occupied eighth position in the final 12-month Order of Merit, informed the PDC that she is unavailable to compete in Blackpool due to a prior commitment.

Greaves defeated Sherrock to win the Women’s Series Event Seven without dropping a single leg in the whole tournament

The draw also pits 2022 champion Sherrock up against three-time Lakeside women’s champion Anastasia Dobromyslova in a blockbuster quarter-final clash.

Sherrock memorably prevailed in the tournament’s inaugural staging, and after winning four of the last five Women’s Series events in 2023 has added a further two titles to her tally in 2024.

Dobromyslova, meanwhile, returned to prominence by reaching back-to-back Women’s Series finals last September, and will make her Blackpool bow as the number seven seed.

Third seed Lisa Ashton won back-to-back Women’s Series titles on Sunday to overhaul Mikuru Suzuki on the Order of Merit, and her reward is a last eight clash against Wales’ Rhian O’Sullivan.

Ashton will maintain her ever-present record in Blackpool alongside Sherrock, while O’Sullivan also returns to Blackpool after featuring in two Women’s Series finals throughout the last 12 months.

The other quarter-final clash will see 2023 runner-up Suzuki take on two-time event winner Noa-Lynn van Leuven, with Greaves or Sheldon awaiting the winner in the semi-finals.

Japanese star Suzuki will be the fourth seed on her Winter Gardens return, having extended her haul of Women’s Series titles to six following a strong start to 2024.

Meanwhile, fifth seed Van Leuven has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign, following up a landmark Challenge Tour triumph with a brace of Women’s Series titles in March and April respectively.

Speaking on the Love The Darts podcast, Glen Durrant says the PDPA are making sure that Noa-Lynn van Leuven is coping with the ‘horrible’ criticism she is receiving for competing as a trans player

The winner of the Women’s World Matchplay will qualify for November’s Grand Slam of Darts and the 2024/25 Paddy Power World Darts Championship, while also scooping the £10,000 top prize.

There are five ranking events remaining before the World Matchplay qualification cut-off on July 3, with four Players Championship events taking place alongside the European Darts Open in Leverkusen from June 21-23.

Following the conclusion of Players Championship 14, the 32-player field for next month’s World Matchplay will be confirmed.

The top 16 players from the PDC Order of Merit will be seeded for July’s showpiece event in Blackpool, and they will be joined by 16 qualifiers from the 12-month ProTour Order of Merit.

Reigning champion Nathan Aspinall will be aiming to retain the coveted Phil Taylor Trophy from July 13-21, with world No 1 Luke Humphries and three-time champion Michael van Gerwen also set to headline the £800,000 event.

Former winners Rob Cross, Peter Wright and Dimitri Van den Bergh will also be among the 16 seeds at the Winter Gardens, alongside world No 3 Michael Smith and 2022 runner-up Gerwyn Price.

Two-time World Champion Gary Anderson – a World Matchplay winner in 2018 – will head up the 16 qualifiers from the one-year ProTour Order of Merit, as Premier League champion Luke Littler prepares to make his highly-anticipated Blackpool bow.

European Championship semi-finalist Gian van Veen and Germany’s Ricardo Pietreczko are also poised to make their World Matchplay debuts next month, as are Ritchie Edhouse and Luke Woodhouse.

Former champion James Wade – an ever-present in Blackpool since 2006 – currently occupies the final provisional qualification place on the ProTour Order of Merit, with Kevin Doets, Callan Rydz and Mike De Decker leading the chasing pack.
