Justin Jefferson: Wide receiver signs biggest non-quarterback contract in NFL history with Minnesota Vikings | NFL News

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson has signed the highest-paid non-quarterback contract in NFL history, sealing a four-year $140m dollar extension which includes $110m guaranteed.

The 24-year-old previously turned down a deal which would have paid him over $28m annually the day before the 2023 season started.

Since being selected by the Vikings with the 22nd overall pick in the 2020 draft, Jefferson has 392 receptions for 5,899 yards and 30 touchdowns.

The 2022 Offensive Player of the Year, Jefferson has averaged 98.3 receiving yards per game – the most in NFL history for any career span – and his average of 6.5 catches per game is the second highest of any receiver in his first four seasons.

Rangers transfers: Oscar Cortes returns to Rangers for second loan from Lens | Football News

Rangers transfers: Oscar Cortes returns to Rangers for second loan from Lens | Football News

Oscar Cortes has rejoined Rangers for a second loan spell from Lens, with the Scottish Premiership club having an obligation to buy the winger next summer.

The 20-year-old Colombian will then sign a four-year deal with the Ibrox club until 2029.

Cortes initially joined Rangers on loan in January, making seven appearances and scoring once before a muscle injury ruled him out for the rest of the season.

On his new deal, the winger said: “I am delighted to be able to stay at Rangers.

“It was an honour and privilege for me to join the club in January and I was enjoying my football under the manager and playing alongside my team-mates.

“Sadly, the injury ended my season early, but I have been working hard and I am excited to help the team and play in front of the wonderful fans again soon.”

Manager, Philippe Clement, added: “I am really pleased to have Oscar coming back.

“He was a big asset to the squad when he came to the club and he showed the qualities that attracted him to us.

“Oscar suffered a setback, but he has worked tirelessly during his recovery and I am sure all of the fans are looking forward to seeing him again next season.”

He is Rangers’ second summer signing after Brazilian defender Jefte joined on a four-year deal from Fluminense, having spent last season on loan with Cypriot First Division champions APOEL.

Centre-back Leon Balogun has signed a new one-year contract extension after he re-joined the Scottish Premiership club last July following an injury to youngster Leon King.

Jon McLaughlin, Borna Barisic, Ryan Jack, John Lundstram and Kemar Roofe have all been released following the expiry of their contracts.

The five players were part of the Rangers squad beaten on penalties by Eintracht Frankfurt in the 2022 Europa League final and each depart Ibrox as Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup winners.

Monday racing tips: Five horses to follow at Windsor & Brighton live on Sky Sports Racing | Racing News

Monday racing tips: Five horses to follow at Windsor & Brighton live on Sky Sports Racing | Racing News

It is another high-quality Monday on Sky Sports Racing with action from Windsor and Brighton and Elliot David returns with five horses to follow across the cards.

ALSHIMALI

3.30 Brighton

Although we look to have a number with claims in here, not least penalised winner Blenheim Star and handicap debut runners-up Red Cloud and Dashing Donkey, I’d say Shadwell’s Alshimali is well worth a look.

His trainer Marcus Tregoning has a terrific record in course handicaps, striking at 39 per cent in such races at Brighton in the last five years. Backing each runner would’ve yielded a level stakes profit of £27.86 to a £1 stake.

This son of Invincible Spirit is clearly bred to be better than a mark of 57, by Invincible Spirit and a half-brother to two well above average winners over seven to 10 furlongs. Though he’s shown relatively little to date, a first-time tongue-tie could assist and he’ll be worth monitoring in the markets tomorrow.

ON THE CARDS

4.00 Brighton

If I’ve considered Alshimali in the previous race, I must also consider Tregoning’s other runner in On The Cards, who takes a step down in class following a hugely promising handicap debut on May 6 at Bath.

That effort saw him running on into third in a class 4, 0-80 contest surrounded by horses well above his rating of 68. I think the 1lb drop he received from the handicapper was extremely lenient and he now takes on no rival of the same talent in this class 5 contest.

I would also keep an eye on Tony Carroll’s runner Douglas Dc off a reduced mark of 66 now returned to racing on the level. That mark of 66 would be of interest if returning to the level of his best efforts in Ireland for Gordon Elliott, with form behind the 87-rated Star Kissed notably useful.

BOLD IMPACT

5.45 Windsor

Given the Haggas-trained Titian Blue has seen her debut form take a few knocks in recent days, I’d side with the Ralph Beckett-trained Bold Impact here. The son of Blue Point caught the eye at Newmarket, surrendering ground to his rivals with a slow start before coming home nicely into third. With the Rowley Mile riding to suit prominent racers, I’d mark that effort up.

The fourth El Burhan has already reappeared to frank the form with victory at Yarmouth and given many of the Beckett two-year-olds are coming on plenty for their first run, I’d expect he could take some stopping here from a favourable draw in stall 4.

DAPPER VALLEY

6.45 Windsor

I think the Newmarket handicap on April 18 in which Trefor (2nd), Dapper Valley (3rd) and Cajetan (6th) all ran could hold the key to unpicking this hyper-competitive handicap. That race saw the group racing up the centre of the track slightly favoured, as was the case for many of the races on the card. While Trefor raced up the centre, both Dapper Valley and Cajetan ran big races in the near side group and could be slightly marked up having raced against the bias.

The winner, Woodhay Wonder, has followed up to earn a rating of 98, showcasing the strength of the race, while Jack Channon’s charge has since reappeared to win at Kempton. The Hannon runner can be forgiven a disappointing run back at Newmarket, when hampered at the start and forced to race unfavourably off the pace and he’s a tempting each-way price here.

Of course, you must respect likely favourite Blue Day who could yet have any amount in hand from a rating of 84 but questions are asked of him up in class and the odds of 7-4 don’t appeal in a race of this depth. Nibbles of each-way money for Matters Most would be interesting given his high-class two-year-old form on fast ground but he’d be entitled to need this run.

GREY OWL

7.45 Windsor

The familiar colours of four-time Windsor winner Grey Fox, who runs in the concluding 8.45 handicap, are also carried by stablemate Grey Owl here. The four-year-old caught the eye here on May 20 when enduring a troubled passage on handicap debut over 10f and can improve for a further step up in trip.

With the benefit of hindsight he had an impossible task that day in conceding the first run and a chunk of weight to winner Laser Focus, who has followed up since and looks well ahead of the assessor, and with all due respect looks likely to face nothing of that calibre here. I’d be disappointed if he didn’t make the frame.

Daniel Dubois vows to ‘demolish’ Anthony Joshua if British heavyweights collide, potentially for IBF title | Boxing News

Daniel Dubois vows to ‘demolish’ Anthony Joshua if British heavyweights collide, potentially for IBF title | Boxing News

Daniel Dubois has vowed to “demolish” Anthony Joshua if the British heavyweights face off, with any showdown between the pair potentially for the IBF title.

Dubois stopped Filip Hrgovic in the eighth round in Saudi Arabia on Saturday night with his Croatian opponent suffering from cuts above both eyes.

The victory earned Dubois the interim IBF belt and the 26-year-old could be upgraded to full world champion if Oleksandr Usyk is forced to vacate the strap after his rematch with Tyson Fury was confirmed for December 21.

Dubois, who could also battle Joshua for the vacant title, said of that possible clash: “That’s what I’ve been hearing [that Joshua could be next], so let’s see.

“[Being world champion] is a dream. From challenging for the world title to getting the chance to win the damn thing outright, that’s what I want.

“I’ll demolish Joshua. I’ll get even better from here.”

Joshua: I have to pick off rivals one by one

Joshua said of facing Dubois or Zhilei Zhang, who knocked out Deontay Wilder in the fifth round this weekend: “I’ve got to pick them off one by one.

“It’s not going to be easy, but that’s my mentality. So come one, come all…

“He [Dubois] has been in tougher fights, so he becomes hardened. He has worked his way up the ladder, we’ll see what happens in the near future.

“Wembley, O2, York Hall – wherever they put me, I’m happy to fight. Any venue, I’ll turn up and do my job.

Reflecting on Wilder’s defeat and future in the sport, Joshua added: “Come again if you want, but he’s got his family and there’s a life outside of boxing for him.

“If he wants to go again, give it another crack. But sooner or later, Father Time will catch up with you, with everyone.”

Today on Sky Sports Racing: Jimmy Speaking seeks hat-trick at Windsor | Racing News

Today on Sky Sports Racing: Jimmy Speaking seeks hat-trick at Windsor | Racing News

Monday’s action from Sky Sports Racing is from Brighton and Windsor with the latter featuring hat-trick-seeking Jimmy Speaking and Flindrikin making her turf debut.

6.45 Windsor – Jimmy Speaking chases hat-trick

Jimmy Speaking seeks a hat-trick in the Fitzdares Sprint Series Qualifier Handicap (6.45).

Chris Dwyer’s three-year-old looks to add to his winning tally after victories at Ascot and Chelmsford. He did everything wrong last time out, hanging badly to the right two furlongs out but he will need to knuckle down here.

Last-time-out winner Blue Day made a successful handicap debut at Southwell. He is up 7lb and needs to continue in this vein on turf.

Another last-time-out winner is Cajetan. Jack Channon’s charge won with enough ease to suggest more could be to come from him.

7.15 Windsor – Flindrikin makes her turf debut

Flindrikin makes her turf debut in the Get Raceday Ready Handicap (7.15).

William Haggas-trained Flindrikin finally got her head in front at Newcastle on her last appearance. She took a fair bit of organising but kept finding. She only went up 3lb for this which could be lenient if she takes well to turf.

Course and distance winners Wonder Starelzaam and Silver Gun both look to improve on their seasonal debuts. The former has struggled of late but could bounce back on a course that suits.

Marco Botti’s Silver Gunn struggled at Windsor first time back this season but he could come on for the run.

6.15 Windsor – In-form duo Gutsy Girl and Bourgeoisie clash

Gutsy Girl and Bourgeoisie clash in the Download The Fitzdares App Now Fillies’ Novice Stakes (6.15).

Winner last time out Gutsy Girl had trainer Charlie Fellowes making a worthy rare trip up to Carlisle. She won comfortably and can go well again on her seasonal reappearance.

Bourgeoisie has a series of seconds to her name and just needs to break her duck. If she has developed over the winter, she could have a leading chance for Richard Hannon.

Another consistent sort is Apeeling, last time out she needed her first run back of the season. This time out she should progress in the hands of Oisin Murphy.

Canadian GP: What now in F1 2024 after Red Bull’s ‘big weakness’ exposed in Monaco defeat? | F1 News

Canadian GP: What now in F1 2024 after Red Bull’s ‘big weakness’ exposed in Monaco defeat? | F1 News

Max Verstappen admits Red Bull’s struggles in Monaco exposed the “big weakness” in their 2024 car amid the growing challenge to the world champions’ two-year stranglehold on race weekends in F1.

Amid what was already a tightening of the battle at the front of Formula 1 this season, Red Bull suffered their least competitive showing since last September’s Singapore GP – another street track – two weeks ago in Monaco with Verstappen qualifying and finishing sixth in a race won impressively by Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc.

On leaving Monaco with a reduced world championship lead over Leclerc of 31 points, Verstappen admitted: “Some tracks that are still upcoming won’t really be that good for us but then also some tracks will be better for us.”

Speaking to Sky Sports F1, the world champion added: “The only positive that comes out of [Monaco] is that we understand what our big weakness is and that’s what we really have to work on.

“I think if we can solve that, or at least make it decent, we immediately gain a lot of lap time.

“That is promising – but we have to do it.”

So what ‘weakness’ did Monaco expose for Red Bull?

Red Bull’s rivals have largely been clutching at straws when attempting to identify weaker points in their cars since the current F1 rules package was introduced in 2022, with the Milton Keynes team and Verstappen dominating the era so far.

But the RB20 was conclusively off the pace all weekend in Monaco with car not enjoying the street track’s bumps or kerbs.

“To understand what the issues were with the ride and the kerbs, we’ve got a huge amount of data now to go away and look at, and look to address for the upcoming races,” said team boss Christian Horner after the race.

“I think we saw it in Singapore last year as well, so I think we’ve had another example of that. We know it’s an area of the car we need to work on.

Chelsea: Enzo Maresca set to be unveiled on Monday after signing five-year deal to become head coach | Football News

Chelsea: Enzo Maresca set to be unveiled on Monday after signing five-year deal to become head coach | Football News

Chelsea are set to confirm Enzo Maresca as their new head coach on Monday.

The 44-year-old, who will succeed Mauricio Pochettino at Stamford Bridge, has agreed a five-year deal and will move from Leicester after leading them back to the Premier League by winning the Championship.

Maresca was Chelsea’s number-one choice after a shortlist featuring Brentford boss Thomas Frank, Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna and Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi was drawn up.

The Italian’s release clause at the King Power Stadium is understood to have been between £8m and £10m.

Maresca is taking six members of his backroom staff from Leicester with him, including former Chelsea goalkeeper Willy Cabellero.

Chelsea co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart led the recruitment process after being entrusted by co-owners Behdad Eghbali and Todd Boehly.

They travelled to Marbella for face-to-face talks with Maresca after Leicester gave permission for discussions to commence.

Chelsea were impressed by the depth and breadth of Maresca’s knowledge about their squad in talks with his representatives, as well as his focus on the way Chelsea want to play and his desire for the job.

Maresca’s obsession with possession and positional play made him the leading candidate to replace Pochettino, who left by mutual consent.
